Granada – Day 1 of 3.

We made it to Granada around 10:00 pm last night and met up with Roger and Carla who we haven’t seen for the past two weeks. Roger had tequila (past tense). Need I say more? By the time 3:00 am rolled around we were more than ready to visit our new beds in this completely ultra modern casa built inside of a 16th century building.

We all got ourselves to the 11:00 am free walking tour that began at a public square at the water fountain near the Justice Building in a wonderful courtyard where a lady was playing violin under the shade of an orange tree.

Our guide took us through the history of Grenada, beginning with the statue of Columbus bowing to Queen Isabella upon being granted permission to explore the seas funded by the queen’s pocket book.

Our next stop was through the old Arabic silk and leather market that had inscriptions around the doorways and a working water fountain from the 13th century where traders would water themselves and their trusty steeds. This was one of the oldest areas where business was conducted in Granada.

It’s seems that every turn we took we’d find another water fountain, church, busker, or restaurant.

Law courts building.

Our tour ended with a vantage point overlooking the Alhambra.

This is a diorama of the Alhambra and the front gate leading up the road. This will be tomorrows destination which we’re really looking forward to seeing since it’s Spains number one tourist attraction.
